Passover is a communal event and it is observed with a meal, in families, in groups, and even over the Internet. The Seder plate is laden with the symbolic elements that are shared by all at the table.
The Seder plate:
1. Zeroa - shank bone representing the sacrificed lamb (not handled)
2. Beitza - roasted hard-boiled egg, symbol of mourning
3. Maror /Chazeret - horseradish for harsh tears
4. Maror /Chazeret - onion for bitter tears
5. Charoset - nuts, apple, cinnamon paste to resemble mortar and brick
6. Karpas - parsley or lettuce to be dipped into salted water, then eaten
Individuals sometimes combine the horseradish and nut/apple paste with matzah for a sandwich.
